Matt has Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the University of Sydney. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1980.

Matteo (Matt) Russoniello, Consultant at RMB Lawyers, is one of the Illawarra’s last remaining “generalist” legal practitioners, bringing over four decades of experience across a broad range of legal areas. His practice has spanned conveyancing, wills and probate, criminal law, family law and litigation, with extensive experience appearing in the Common Law and Equity Divisions of the Supreme Court, as well as various tribunals and federal jurisdictions, including the Full Court of the Federal Court. Matt is highly regarded for his depth of legal knowledge, practical insight and long-standing connection to the Illawarra community, where he has practised since 1980.

After beginning his career as an employed solicitor and later a partner in a Corrimal firm, Matt established Russoniello Lawyers in Wollongong in 1992, working alongside his daughter, Sarah Thatcher, in more recent years. In March 2026, Matt and Sarah joined RMB Lawyers, recognising the opportunity to provide their clients with the strength and resources of a leading regional firm while continuing their personalised approach.
