Margaret is a member of RMB’s Compensation Law Division, and a highly experienced practitioner who has been a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law since 1998. In more than 30 years practising Law, Margaret has gained extensive experience in conducting and managing claims involving motor vehicle accidents, work accidents, public liability and medical negligence claims. Margaret specialises in acting for major catastrophic claims involving quadriplegia, loss of limbs and traumatic brain injury, and for clients who are in comas as a result of industrial accidents, motor vehicle accidents or work accidents.

Training:

Margaret graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the Institute of Technology Sydney in 1986.

Professional Background:

Margaret’s legal career started in Local Courts Administration, working in numerous courts around regional NSW, including Orange, Tumut/Tumbarumba, Bourke, Balranald, Brewarrina and the South and North Coasts.

She was then appointed Acting Registrar at Wollongong Local Court, before joining the Department of Public Prosecutions, prosecuting criminal trials in the District Courts in Wollongong Nowra, Queanbeyan, Moruya and Sydney.

In 1989 Margaret moved into private practice, specialising in Personal Injury Law. Over the years her cases have required her to confer with some of the world’s leading experts on brain injuries in the UK and the US, experts from Germany on the latest developments in prosthetics and the US on life expectancy. She has also acted for many overseas clients in Dubai, the US, China and Japan.

Margaret is a very compassionate lawyer who bestows great respect and empathy on her clients and their families. She loves to help people to try and restore what they have lost both from a physical and psychological perspective.

Margaret is also an involved member of the legal profession, having been a member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance since 1998, and a former ALA NSW branch committee member. She is a Past President of the Wollongong and Regional District Law Society, and spent three years as a Councillor of the Law Society of NSW sitting on a number of committees including Ethics, Professional Conduct, Fidelity and Licensing.

She continues to sit on the Medico Legal Liaison and Licensing Committee.

Personal Details and Interests:

Margaret is a keen runner and long distance walker, and a long-term patron of the Conts ( the Continental Pool ) at Wollongong Harbour. In 1995 Margaret obtained her Bronze Medallion with Surf Life Saving Australia at Warilla Beach.

She loves Wollongong City (South) Beach and the Five Islands, with fond memories of a childhood when she and her 11 brothers and sisters would march in rank and file from her grandparents’ home in Corrimal Street through the golf course to South Beach where her father was a lifesaver.

Margaret also has a keen interest in international travel.
